Here’s a new one for Optus customers: an online ‘cloud’ service that lets you schedule, record and stream the 15 main free-to-air channels. The good: If you’ve got an Optus mobile, you get 45 minutes free storage, and data charges are zero rated. The bad: You can’t stream live TV (unless you fork out extra for Optus Mobile TV).
It’s definitely a bold move from Optus, and strikes me as a sort of mainstream Slingbox meets Fetch TV. Could be useful while on the train – but I’d like to see an option to download the video so tunnels don’t create unwanted cliffhangers.
Optus TV Now is only available to Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Adelaide and Perth customers. It also looks like iPhone users get an app, while other Android phones and PCs see a web-based interface. [Optus]
