The skeleton of a great sci-fi movie is its concept. Is it new? Is it interesting? Does it make you think? The answer to all of these questions is “yes” in Ecstasia, which is currently getting ready for production, and just landed Scott Eastwood in one of its main roles.
Eastwood joins Rings star Matilda Lutz in the film, which will be written and directed by Wayne Kramer (The Cooler). Ecstasia is set in a future where there is no love. The only way to experience love is to buy it and have it installed in your head. But, like most technology, its shelf-life is limited. The film centres on the last couple of days before a couple’s love breaks.
We’ve been hearing about this movie since back in 2011, when we still didn’t know if Robert Downey Jr. was going to be in The Avengers. That’s how long Kramer has been trying to get this made.
Distributors will have a chance to pick up Ecstasia beginning at the Toronto International Film Festival and, if all goes according to plan, shooting will begin in South Africa early next year.
