Watch All Three Modern Doctor Who Showrunners Geek Out Together

All three contemporary showrunners behind the return of Doctor WhoRussell T. Davies, Steven Moffat, and Chris Chibnall—have apparently not been in a room together until recently since 2009. It’s perhaps easy to see why, because the sheer amount of Doctor Who nerdery contained between the three of them is dangerous to expose other people to.

As part of a recent 60th anniversary musical celebration of Doctor Who, the BBC has released a brief new interview with all three showrunners together discussing the musical legacy of the program. Ostensibly, that is, because when you get three people who love Doctor Who so much together to have a chat, inevitably things go off rails in the most delightful manner almost immediately.

The Three Showrunners | Doctor Who @ 60 | Doctor Who

From a rapid-fire invocation of the Mandrels—the one off creepy furry creatures from the 1979 serial “Nightmare of Eden”—to Russell T. Davies waxing lyrical about one specific camera zoom from Tom Baker’s final story as the Doctor, “Logopolis,” to Steven Moffatt casually declaring all of modern Doctor Who non-canonical, it’s a wonderfully silly, yet delightfully earnest chat. And when they actually do get round to talking about the music, you can feel their love of the show really keenly—even naturally having to have a step removed as people who were involved in actually making the series, you can never really hide the fact that they’re Doctor Who fans as much as they are creative architects behind the show.
